PRESS RELEASE: EPG and Southampton University lecturer to work together on social innovation ecologies.

Economic Policy Group (EPG), the economic and strategy consulting firm, today announced it is starting a collaboration on social innovation with Dr Pathik Pathak from the University of Southampton. The collaboration will be academic research into social innovation through research-based social enterprise, focussed on developing new methodologies in social impact measurement for the UK and Asian markets.

London is set to become a centre for the international renminbi (RMB) business. George Osborne, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, set out his vision in April this year for London to develop as a “western hub” for the international RMB market, to complement the natural hub of Hong Kong and other financial centres. There is increasing pressure for providers of public services to evidence the social impact they are having. The application of SROI is a relatively young discipline, often not well understood by the third sector. There is considerable variability in how SROI is applied, which makes no two SROI ratios necessarily comparable. This article looks at some of the technical challenges and misconceptions in working with SROI, based on our experience of measuring social investment returns.

In public policy investments, costs are often incurred in the short-term, with benefits accruing in the longer term.
