At NASSCOM, over a period of 5 years he has scaled SME vertical to newer heights taking it global locations, strategized regional member outreach to become the strongest value add to the organization, and transformed non-performing assets into performing trends for IT BPM industry ecosystem, initiated disruptive initiatives to strengthen NASSCOM’s Skilling and reskilling goals.
With over 30 years of experience of working with IBM as a Geo Expansion Leader, and HP/Compaq/Digital as a transformation leader, he has the acumen of building and nurturing teams that hold up the vision of the organisations.
He is a member of the IT High power committee of GOVT of Kerala and in the board of ICT skills academy Karnataka and the NAIN (New age incubation network) board member of the Govt of Karnataka. He is also in the advisory board in numerous consulting firms in the areas of leadership and D&I.
Managing Director for boutique economic consulting firm EPG, specialising in economic analysis, strategic communications and market entry assistance with India, with offices in London, Bangalore and East Africa.
He was additionally, until August 2017, UK Director for the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the premier and largest industry body in India. He is also the co-founder of a tech start-up in the CSR space. Previously he worked in Economic Consulting at FTI Consulting and Deloitte in London and Abu Dhabi, with a focus on public policy and arbitration. He was Chairman for a not-for-profit membership organisation with several thousand members for three years.
He studied Economics at Warwick University, where he was awarded the Prize for Excellence, and LMU University of Munich. His dissertation won a prize at an international economics conference at Georgetown University, Washington DC. He has published academic research on behavioural economics and social impact and is a regular commentator on public policy and India across print, TV and online media, featured on BBC News, CBC, CNBC, CNN, NDTV, South China Morning Post and Huffington Post.
Sonal’s key external appointments include External Examiner at Ulster University, UKCISA Board of Trustees, International Academic Advisory Council for QS Conferences and Governor at Poole Hospitals NHS Trust.
Sonal is a passionate advocate for innovative approaches to teaching and learning, internationalisation of the ‘home’ experience, close university-industry interaction for a brand of HE that is integrated with policy and practice – regionally, nationally and internationally.
